Matt Cutts discussing hidden text and Keyword stuffing

What is hidden text?

Hidden text refers to text that isn’t immediately visible to the reader. It can be legitimate for things like accessibility or SEO since it is visible to computers, but it can also be used deceptively for things like keyword stuffing. Examples of hidden text includes white text on a white page and using CSS techniques to push text off-screen while still keeping it accessible to screen readers.

What is keyword stuffing?

Keyword stuffing refers to the continuos usage of specific words or terms that you want to rank for. Readers often find it hard to understand the text (the text doesn’t make sense) as it can be overwhelming. Keyword stuffing often occurs when using spinning programs or auto generated text.

How to correct

Remove the text

If you manually entered the text simply find the paragraph and delete it.

If you use different components like plugins, extensions or a Spinning program, you’ll have to figure out which component causes the issue and then delete / uninstall it.

Documentation

It is important to give Google feedback on what caused the issue and how you’ll ensure that it doesn’t happen again. You can do this by taking screenshots and explaining how you solved the problem. It is important to save this documentation (preferably in PDF format) so you’ll be able to send it to Google when you submit your reconsideration request.
